Book launch via the mobile - success for Gängkrig 145

How to make young men buy books? That was the challenge that MORE had when Bonnierförlaget Wahlström & Widstrand was going to launch Jens Lapidus book Gängkrig 145, a graphic novel that probably would attract the target group. The answer is easy - you reach them via their most personal communication device - the mobile phone.

Background

Jens Lapidus is one of Sweden’s most popular authors. With his books “Easy Money” (Snabba cash) and “Never Fuck Up” (Aldrig Fucka upp) he has sold over 900000 books only in Sweden and his books are distributed in 22 countries. “Gängkrig 145″, the third book in the series of Stockholm Noir books is a graphic novel, written by Jens Lapidus and illustrated by Peter Bergting.

Challenge

As it is a graphic novel Bonnierförlagen saw the potential in reaching a new target group, i.e. young men between 16-28 years old. They prefer to surf and listen to music and are hard to reach via traditional media.

With a mobile campaign Bonnierförlagen wanted to create an interest around “Gängkrig 145″ before it was released as well as introduce Lapidus books to a new young target group.

Solution

“Gängkrig 145″ was lanched with a mobile site, which MORE developed. The site gives the reader the chance to read comic strips from the book, download play lists with music that is built around the characters of the book and access a lot of other content like ring signals, background images, sample from the audio CD, interviews with the authors etc.

Bonnierförlagen also released an animated film with frames from the book to market the mobile site. The film was shown at SF films for young people and was also placed at YouTube. The mobile site was also promoted at all 79 Åhléns department stores all over the country.

To market the mobile site Bonnierförlagen also cooperated with the operator 3 that wanted to give their customer an attractive offering. Bonnierförlagen got access to 3s customer base and could send out an inspiring MMS to young men.

Results

The first edition of “Gängkrig 145″ launched May 20 is already sold out and 24.000 copies are sold. By using the mobile Bonnierförlagen has reached a new target group.
