Festbook - Find your Facebook friends
Every year in week 40 The Danish National Board of Health focuses on alcohol consumption. This year their campaign “Stop before 5” created by the advertising agency TBWA spoke directly to the 16-25-year-olds using social media including a mobile application developed by MORE.
The challenge
The campaign goal was to get young people to drink less when they drink, and the creative strategy behind the campaign was to involve rather than simply inform. The campaign should be engaging through a language that young people responds to.

The target group communicate constantly, want to join in on the action and don’t want to miss out on anything. With this in mind it was logical for TBWA to let social media play a big role and develop a mobile application that would be able to extend the campaign periode onwards from week 40. TBWA developed a campaign consisting of a broad mix of media:
- Website, stopførfem.dk
- Web banners
- Adds and outdoor
- Facebook fan group
- Facebook application
- Radio
- Film (TV and cinema)
- And last but not least mobile banners and a mobile application developed both for Java phones and iPhones.
The mobile application is called “Festbook” and has an unique integration of Google Maps, GPS and Facebook. Festbook contains four fun and useful functionalities when you’re at a party or out on the town. Most important is that you can see where your Facebook contacts are located on Google Maps, but you can also find the nearest taxi, take a balance test and measure your blood alcohol concentration.
The Festbook application was marketed through mobile banners on mobile sites, on the website, on Facebook and on the traditional media, where the audience was invited to text FESTBOOK to 1231 to receive a link to a download site.
The results
The campaign has created quite a debate in the media and especially in the Facebook group, where lots of young people reflects on how much they drink, social consequences of drinking and also the campaign itself.
The Festbook application was downloaded 1,775 times in week 40 (Java 1,395 times and iPhone 380 times), and at the end of December the application reached 5,713 downloads (Java: 2,991, iPhone: 2,722) which shows how mobile media can extend a traditional and short term campaign and make it live on on the users’ terms. The application is still available on App Store and iTunes and by sending FESTBOOK to 1231 (only Danish subscribers).
