What did Telenor do when they wanted to reach 2 600 sales people, located in 977 different stores, and learn them more about Telenors different products?

The challenge

The distribution network for Telenors services range from telecom specialists to consumer electronic stores, and the competition is fierce among brands in these stores. The sales force in these stores are mainly men between age 18 and 35 and they are geographically spread around in all of Norway. It is a challenge to be top of mind brand with sales staff in and reach them with relevant and updated product information.
Ordinary classroom training or e-learning is difficult to organize and very costly as you have to take the persons out of their normal working environment. In order to capture their interest over a longer period of time, the learning program also should be both engaging and enjoyable.

The solution

During the following three weeks the program and competition started, the participants received useful information about Telenor’s products and they were challenged in their product-knowledge and sales techniques. The program were utilizing multiple mobile channels for the communication with the participants such as recorded voice messages, SMS-dialogues and questionnaires on a mobile portal.

Results

The training program was very successful and more than 1200 salesmen joined the competition.

  • Over 46% of the entire target group participated.
  • Out of those 82% of the competitors actively participated during each of the three campaign weeks.

During the two week of recruiting and three week’s campaign 1 200 salesmen:

  • Received 80 000 text messages
  • Listened to 8 800 voice minutes and
  • Generated 17 000 page views on the mobile portal

MORE ran a mobile survey after the campaign with great response:

74% of the participants answered that it was “very fun” or “fun” to participate in the training program.
94% answered that they would like to participate in similar programs in the future
